Think of it as people becoming Consumatronic Zombies, just wandering around, mindlessly grabbing whatever's advertised, forgetting what they actually care about. Buying things isn't about needing or even liking them anymore; it's just the point, even if it doesn't really make anyone happy. (Baudrillard, 1981; Debord, 1967).
